The Sunday Post: Reviewing the Week and Looking Ahead – 1/14/2024

Welcome back to Back Shelf Books!

What. A. Week!

My house is unfortunately full of sick pups. Each of my three inside dogs are sick (and surprisingly, they’re sick with different illnesses). They’re all doing well, but it’s been a long week for us.

Even with all the craziness, I’ve had a surprising amount of excellent reads lately. I’ve been treating myself to reading some books I’ve been wanting to read for a very long time, and it’s really paid off.

News & Fun

You many remember me mentioning this lovely Duo Super Plus tablet holder back on my Holiday Wishlist and Gift Idea post. We had a very late Christmas with my in-laws, where they gifted me this beauty. It came with an alternate denim-like cover so I don’t have to keep the fuzzy cover all the time, but I adore the fuzzy cover. I absolutely recommend this tablet stand to anyone who uses a Kindle, iPad, or other tablet. (This isn’t an affiliate link, I just love this little fuzzy dude a ton.)

THIS NEXT WEEK IS A GOOD ONE GUYS!!

What I Read This Week

I’m super proud of myself for getting through some novels this week (and not just novellas and graphic novels). I really, really loved some of the books I read.

Currently Reading

Depending on where my mood reading takes me, one of these books will be next: Nature of the Crime, The Apollo, Elemental Games, or Savage Skies. Other than those, I would really like to finish up How to Clean Everything. As someone who’s neurodivergent, I have found it incredibly helpful and practical!

Recent ARC Pick-Ups

Okay, I picked up a lot of ARCs this week on Netgalley. I don’t have much of a defense – I just really liked the sound of these. I blame some of you guys for featuring a few of these in your most anticipated books lists on Top Ten Tuesday this past week!! 😂

Final Thoughts on the Week

Thanks for joining me again this week. My main priorities this week are getting my pups healthy, keeping my home from going in disarray, and staying sane in the process. Any books I read on top of that are just be a plus!

Please share your Sunday Post in the comments below so I can check out your post. Sunday Posts are my favorites!

❤️ Thanks for stopping by!

  1. I need to give The Tusks of Extinction a shot! I wasn’t totally sure about the premise, but people seem to love it, and my wife loved The Mountain in the Sea. Good to see you enjoyed it!

    My weekly roundup.

  2. It must be rough trying to help three dogs with three different sicknesses. Good luck!

I hope you are able to enjoy all your new NetGalley reads.

  3. Urg! Three dogs all with different ailments – that must be a challenge. I hope they all recover very soon! I love the look of that bookrest! In the meantime, I’m intrigued by Tusks of Extinction… Have a better week, Hannah:).

  4. Aww it’s no fun to have sick dogs. It makes me feel worse than if I was sick when my dogs are sick! I hope they’re able to get better soon and you can get a break! Lots of good books there too. Hope this week is better!

  5. I have not read much (if anything) by Sally Britton. I know she is an author I have been meaning to try. Sorry to hear about the sick pups, hope they are all better soon! Have a great week!

    1. I adore her Inglewood series! If you like clean Regency romances, you will adore it!! A group of friends and quite unique. Very little of The Season and more of the countryside of England.

  6. I hope your dogs get better quickly! Sick dogs are frustrating and expensive.

  7. Oh no, poor sick puppies, I hope they all feel better soon! <3 I'm not surprised you love that fuzzy tablet stand, it looks gorgeous and I'm jealous!

I'm so happy you enjoyed Comfort Me with Apples. It was a 5 star read for me too! Have a wonderful week!

  8. I’m sorry about the puppies. I hope they are doing better now. I love that fuzzzy tablet stand. Very cute. Have a great week!

  9. Awww. Poor puppies. I hate it when my cats are sick. One of mine has allergies so she get stuffed up quite a lot and I always feel so bad for her. I hope your puppies get feeling better soon. Thanks for stopping by my blog.

  10. Aw I hate it when they are sick or hurting. Our Lulu has allergies and scratched her ears to death so we got drops and a salve from the emergency vet last Sunday. She’s doing fine now. Awesome that you are finding great books to read!

  11. Oh no about the pups! I hope they’re better soon, poor things.

Nice to see that Comfort Me With Apples was a 5 star. I’ve been wanting to read that! And Tusks too.

Xino caught my eye with that cover .

    1. Comfort Me with Apples was incredible! Spoilers, but I also loved Xino. It’s a weird comic series, but wildly imaginative.

  12. I hope your sweet pups are feeling better very soon. Enjoy your new books. I’m looking forward to The Warm Hands of Ghosts.

  13. I hope your dogs are on the mend. All of the ARCs you picked up look so good! I love the tablet holder!

  14. So sorry to hear about the pups and what are the chances that all three would have something different. Hope they all feel better soon.

I have Yours for the Taking too. Hope we both enjoy it!

    1. It is absolutely crazy! They’re all at different life stages, which makes a little more sense.

  15. I hope your pups get better soon! And I love that tablet stand! My grandmother gave me a book rest one Christmas but it was triangular and kind of awkward to use so my cats use it as a pillow. Cursed Cruise looks interesting! I might have to check that one out!

    1. I love the stand! It’s a soft but still stiff foam. Super nice. Thanks for stopping by!

  16. Oh no! I hope your pups feel better soon!!

  17. One of our three dachshunds was throwing up a lot yesterday. No idea why. We put her on chicken and rice and she’s keeping it down and seems fine now. Maybe just needed a diet change. She’s an older dog, 11 years old. I’m going to check out How to Clean Everything. Cleaning does not come naturally to me. My husband is actually a better housekeeper than i am. Here’s my SP: https://bonniereadsandwrites.com/2024/01/14/sunday-post-fuzzy-socks-are-the-best/

    1. We have three dachshunds as well! One of them is 13, and things definitely get different as they age – that’s for sure. I hope things go well with yours! And I hear you on the cleaning. My husband is definitely better than me. The book is super practical and not at all talking down to the reader. Goes through how to clean every little thing in the house. Very useful.

  18. I have a similar prop for my iPad that I use all the time, it’s plain grey though.
I probably need How To Clean Everything

Wishing you a great reading week

  19. I hope your dogs feel better soon! That must be stressful. And poor little Rey, looking at you with those sad eyes. My husband’s cousin has a mini dachshund that we love. She’s such a good girl. Enjoy your week!

Your poor dogs! I hope they don’t share their different illnesses with each other. And I hope they are feeling better and you are able to get some rest. That is an awesome tablet holder! I love the pink fluff look.

I am glad you have been enjoying your reading. Several of your recent reads are ones I would like to read. Tread of Angels caught my eye–I have been wanting to read Rebecca Roanhorse’s books for some time now. I have a couple on my TBR. Three, actually. Your new books all sound so good! I hope you enjoy them. I hope you have a great week!

  23. I am sorry to hear about all three of your dogs being sick, I hope they feel better soon! That tablet holder looks great. Have a great week!
