The Sunday Post: Reviewing the Week and Looking Ahead – 12/24/2023

Here we go, again! Another Sunday Post. How are we all doing this week?

We’ve been under the weather in my neck of the woods, so I’ve been less productive than I wish I could have been on the blog this week. But, it’s almost Christmas! That alone is reason to celebrate. I’ve got another week of books planned on the blog and I’m excited for what 2024 holds. Without further ado, here’s the Sunday wrap-up:

Recent Posts & Reviews

Graphic Novel Review: Parasocial by Alex de Campi and Erica Henderson

Recently Announced – Star Wars: The Glass Abyss by Steven Barnes (aka a canon Mace Windu novel!)

Top Ten Tuesday: 2024 Book Wishlist and Last-Minute Gift Ideas

Graphic Novel Review: Nature’s Labyrinth, Vol. 1 by Zac Thompson and Bayleigh Underwood

Review: The Endless Vessel by Charles Soule

Back Shelf Review: The Jewel and Her Lapidary by Fran Wilde

Upcoming Posts & Reviews

I have some fun reviews coming up this week, but I also have some unexpected posts that aren’t book reviews and I’m really excited about them.

On Christmas Day, *fingers crossed* I will have a breakdown and ranking of ALL the Doctor Who Christmas specials. My husband and I have watched ALL of them the past week and he even joined me for a bit of banter and commentary.

On New Years Eve, I’ll be sharing my New Years intentions, reading goals, and challenges I’ll be participating in.

I hope you’ll join the fun!

What I Read This Week

I didn’t get too much ready done this week being sick, but I was able to finish a few books I’d left half-finished for a while now.

Currently Watching & Reading

Currently Watching:

Doctor Who! Tomorrow is the Christmas special! And the first full episode with Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor!

Currently Reading:

I have a few audiobooks on deck that I’m taking my time through. I’ve only started one of them, but the one I’ve started I’m not enjoying so much. 😬

Non-ARC Pick-Ups

Kindle Purchases:

Here and Now and Then: A Novel by Mike Chen

Hauntings by Vernon Lee (free!)

The Combat Codes by Alexander Darwin

Cyberpunk 2077: No Coincidence by Rafal Kosik and Stefan Kielbasiewicz

Earthdivers #10 by Steven Graham Jones

Final Thoughts on the Week

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I’m thrilled for 2024 and can’t wait to share another year of books with you all.

  1. I hope you all feel better soon. Happy holidays!

  2. I hope you’re feeling better, and can have a great Christmas. Spawn and I are very excited as well for the new Doctor, and the new Christmas special.

    1. I hope you guys have fun with it!!!

  3. Merry Christmas! I hope you have a lovely holiday.
My husband and I tried to watch Dr. Who, but we stopped for some reason and never got restarted. We watched all of the 9th doctor and two episodes with David Tennant. We really should get back into the show.

    1. Merry Christmas! The 9th is my favorite!!

  4. My husband is a lapidary, and, since this book is just 89 pages, I think it is a book I need to find and read.

I’m sorry you have been under the weather! I hope you are feeling better before Christmas.

  5. I find the idea of Dr. Who fascinating, but have never watched any because I feel like I should start from the beginning, and that’s daunting! I have a student who’s a big fan, and I got him the Steven Cole Dr. Who Christmas book (Ten Days of Christmas: Festive Tales with the Tenth Doctor) and there were some ties in with some of the specials that I didn’t quite understand, not having seen the program. I’ll have the review up tomorrow. Merry CHristmas!

    1. I really enjoyed the anthology! But you’re totally right that the book had a couple of tie-ins with the show that might have been confusing. Really excited to see your thoughts. You definitely don’t have to start at the very beginning with Doctor Who! Just pick an actor you like and start there! The new actor seems really good and starts Christmas day 🙂

  6. I’m looking forward to your Doctor Who post. I did that several years ago and it put me in a great mood: https://www.joyweesemoll.com/2015/12/18/doctor-who-christmas-specials-brifri/ Merry Christmas!

    1. It’s been so much fun!! We forgot how much we loved some of these episodes.

  7. I’m excited for the new year too! And I can’t wait to see what goals and intentions you’ll be taking on. I’ve signed up for a few reading challenges but other than those, I don’t think I have any specific reading goals. Have a wonderful Christmas!

  8. Oh, that cover of A Fragile Enchantment is pretty!

Hope you have a great Christmas!

  9. I hope you get to feeling better in time to enjoy Christmas! Lots of good looking books here, mostly new to me. I’m considering starting Dr. Who, but my mind has a bit of a block since the one or two episodes I remember catching bits of when I was a kid were not great, and I’m told to skip to newer seasons anyway.

  10. Merry Christmas, sounds like a great week lined up!

  11. I’m sorry you haven’t been feeling well. I hope you are getting better. Merry Christmas!

  12. I hope you feel better and have a great Christmas!

  15. I hope you are feeling better. You have a nice looking assortment of books here. I’ve never watched Dr. Who though I’ve heard lots about it. Happy holidays!

  16. I hope you are feeling better Hannah! Merry Christmas and have a lovely week of reading!🎄📚💜

  17. I haven’t watched a single Dr. Who episode, but it’s been on my list for quite awhile now. Maybe 2024 will be the year? Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

  18. I hope you’re feeling better and had a nice Christmas! And yay for Doctor Who! I haven’t been following the last few season, but I was a big fan for a while. Maybe I should get back into it!

  19. Hope you felt better for Christmas! Hope the Doctor Who watch along went well, I just recently caught up with it. Thanks for stopping by! Happy reading!
