The Sunday Post: Reviewing the Week and Looking Ahead – 2/11/2024

How is it already Sunday again?? This week completely flew by!

My husband and I had a bit of an adventure day today and actually made it to three (!!!) different bookstores. Somehow, even with this blog and all the books I hear about, I always find books I’ve never even seen before. Today, my eye caught this anthology: Our Shadows Have Claws: 15 Latin American Monster Stories.

Our Shadows Have Claws: 15 Latin American Monster Stories.

February is coming along much smoother than I hoped in last week’s Sunday Post, though I still may not get everything read that I wanted to finish.

What books are you prioritizing this month?

Upcoming Posts & Reviews

Next week’s programming is mostly complete, which is lovely! I’ll have reviews of The Butcher of the Forest on Monday, Queer Villains of Myth and Legend on Thursday, and Volume 2 of Stephen Graham Jones’s Earthdivers comic on Friday! I’m hoping to have a few other surprises the other days, so stay tuned!

What I Read This Week

This week I finished up Cara Devlin’s Nature of the Crime, Melissa Albert’s The Bad Ones, Hafsah Faizal’s A Tempest of Tea, and Premee Mohamed’s The Butcher of the Forest. I feel the distinct need to read a graphic novel. Hopefully next week!!

Currently Reading

I’m nearly finished with Kiersten White’s Mister Magic (so interesting!) and I’m about 15% into Lee Mandelo’s The Woods All Black (loving it so far!!). I’ve read exactly half a chapter of Katherine Arden’s The Warm Hands of Ghosts, but plan to brew a lot of tea and get that one finished this week as well.

Recent ARCs I’m LIVING for

The VIBES on these recent ARCs I’ve received are too good. So thrilled to have these and thankful to the publishers. Look for reviews of these over the upcoming weeks and months.

Final Thoughts on the Week

My goal for this week is to make time for at least one fun read, even if that’s just a comic or a short story. I’m having a bit of burn-out with some of my heavier reads, which I definitely don’t like. Luckily, I have more than a few novellas and comics in my back pocket!

As always, please share your Sunday Post in the comments below so I can check out your blog and post. Thanks for stopping by!

  1. I’m reading Bookshops and Bonedust at the moment by Travis Baldree – the prequel to Legends and Lattes. It definitely qualifies as a lighter read. Have a great week!

    1. Ahh, such a great recommendation! I saw it in the bookstore today and almost picked it up!

  2. I found that I’d been reading too many dark reads last year, and I’ve vowed to read lighter ones this year. Mister Magic looks intriguing.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a Three Bookstore Day, but now I think I need to put that on my bucket list!

    1. I like that vow! Definitely adding that goal in for the rest of my year. I recommend a Three Bookstore Day to everyone!!

  3. Wow, my family would never let me visit 3 bookstores in a day. They complain about going to one. I hope you have a great week!

  4. I think you pointed out why I read so many genres. It gives me different pacing and types of stories so I almost never burn out on reading. Is The Stardust Grail a followup to the Deep Sky which I have been trying to read for months? I’ve nearly finished my February ARCs but I want to get ahead on March since it will be jam packed with #SIAM. I finished the next WTZ yesterday and it was awesome.

    Have a great weekend!

  9. I’m definitely a mood reader or I quickly burn out. I hope you find something lighter that you enjoy! I love Katherine Arden’s work but haven’t heard of The Warm Hands of Ghosts so I’ll have to look for it. Enjoy your week!

  10. Visiting three bookstores in a weekend sounds wonderful!!! Have a great week!
