Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Meant To Read in 2023 But Didn’t Get To

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly blog meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. These are all things I can wholeheartedly get behind.

This week’s topic is “Books I Meant to Read in 2023 but Didn’t Get To.” To make this a bit harder on myself, I’ve listed only 2023 books.

I’m actually really surprised to find mostly fantasy and horror on this list and practically no science fiction. This is probably two-fold. First, I already read a decent amount of the 2023 sci-fi releases! Second, I’ve been in the mood for fantasy over hard-hitting speculative reads lately. I’m riding the fun-book wave for as long as it lasts!

  1. Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett (Del Rey, January 10, 2023)
  1. Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross (Wednesday Books, April 4, 2023)
  1. Yellowface by R.F. Kuang (William Morrow, May 16, 2023)
  1. A House with Good Bones by T. Kingfisher (Tor Nightfire, March 28, 2023)
  1. Out There Screaming: An Anthology of New Black Horror edited by Jordan Peele (Random House, October 3, 2023)
  1. Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson (Dragonsteel Entertainment, January 1, 2023)
  1. Untethered Sky by Fonda Lee (Tordotcom, April 11, 2023)
  1. Thornhedge by T. Kingfisher (Tor Books, August 15, 2023)
  1. Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros (Red Tower Books, May 2, 2023)
  1. And Put Away Childish Things by Adrien Tchaikovsky (Solaris, March 28, 2023)

Do we have anything in common on our list this week?

Most importantly, should I actually read Fourth Wing?

Please share your TTT in the comments below!!

  1. I don’t read either fantasy or horror so it’s no surprise I’m not familiar with any of the books on your list with the exception of Yellowface which seems to have been mentioned EVERYWHERE recently

  2. Divine Rivals is on my TBR list as of two weeks ago, so it’s technically a 2024 one. We’ll see if I actually read it this year, haha

  3. Ooohhh so many good books here! T. Kingfisher is one of my favorite authors, and Fourth Wing was amazing. I hope you get to them soon!!

  4. Divine Rivals made my list too, but Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries is also one I’m still hoping to read soon! Hope you’ll love all of these!

  5. I saw Rebecca’s book so much on Instagram back when it released so I know it was a well hyped (and often loved) book last year! I hope you enjoy all of the books you didn’t get to, and find some great new ones in 2024, too! Thanks so much for visiting my website today.

  6. I don’t know your taste well enough to tell you to read Fourth Wing, but I do know I read and enjoyed it. I read the follow up as well.

  7. I think you absolutely need to read Fourth Wing…just for cultural literacy at this point! It‘s not my preferred genre so I’m skipping it but so many readers love it!

  8. I’m on a huge library waitlist for Emily Wilde’s Encylopedia of Faeries. I hope you like it.

Here is my Top Ten Tuesday post.

  9. I have not read any of these but have seen them around. I hope you enjoy them when you get a chance to read them!

  10. Divine Rivals is one I’ve been considering thanks to bookstagram! I’m not sure its my thing, but it seems so popular I might give it a try.

  11. I’ve heard so much good things about FOURTH WING and DIVINE RIVALS. I’m waiting for my turn at the library with FOURTH WING and I still need to read another of Rebecca Ross’ books before I delve into another series, lol. I hope you enjoy all of these! Thanks for stopping by my blog.

  12. I really enjoyed ‘A House with Good Bones’ and ‘Thornhedge!’ T. Kingfisher is a great writer. 🙂

  13. I just read Divine Rivals and finished it over the weekend. It was so good! Halfway through Ruthless Vows now. They are so worth it!! I hope you get a chance to read all of these! 🙂

  14. Yellowface is one I’m surprised at myself for not seeking out more. It’s a book I know I will have a lot to say about. Hope you get a chance to pick these up!

  15. Ooh nice picks! I meant to read Emily Wilde and Divine Rivals too! Although at this point I might wait til I get the Divine Rivals sequel! Lol! Fourth Wing I did read and love but I didn’t get to the sequel yet.

Hope you’re able to read all of these in the new year!

    Thanks for visiting my TTT!

  16. I love Emily Wilde & Divine Rivals and Fourth Wing was one of, if not my favourite book of the year, just for the fun. I also read my first T Kingfisher book last year and will be reading more in 2024 as well!

  17. Ahh, some great ones here, and I really need to try out Fourth Wing and Emily Wilde’s… as well. Hope you enjoy them once you get chance to read them!

  18. Emily Wilde, Divine Rivals, and Fourth Wing are all excellent reads. I hope you get to them!

  19. I really liked A House with Good Bones a lot. I wasn’t expecting to, because I had DNF-ed a previous book, but it was really good.

  20. The only one of these I’ve read is Fourth Wing. I was hesitant because of all the crazy hype (and because I’m not a fantasy reader), but I loved it! Hope you will, too. 🙂

  21. YELLOWFACE is one I want to read as well. It’s gotten so much positive buzz that I just have to see what it’s all about 🙂 I hope you love it and all these others when you get to them.

    Happy TTT (on a Thursday)!
