The Sunday Post: Reviewing the Week and Looking Ahead – 1/21/2024

Welcome back to Back Shelf Books and another Sunday Post!

Like so many others, we had a huge cold front and winter storm come through. It’s still here, really. We had somewhere between 8 and 12 inches of snow and it got down to -10°F (-23°C) one night. That is crazy temperatures around here. I’ve been perpetually cold, but at least we’ve all made it through!

Upcoming Posts & Reviews

I had to shift a few things around to fit in my review for the White Trash Zombie readalong & review last week, but I will finally have my Yumi and the Nightmare Painter review up this week. I should also have these other reviews up this week as well.

I also have quite a few non-SFF romance reviews to get up. I’m thinking of doing one post with 3-4 romance mini-reviews!

What I Read This Week

A week of cold means a week of graphic novels and audiobooks. Reviews for most of these graphic novels are still quite a ways out, but I enjoyed most of them a LOT! There’s one 5+ star read in the bunch!

Currently Reading

Do I ever read the books I say I’m going to read? Sometimes. I’m such a huge mood reader, so it’s difficult. Nonetheless, I am part way through these three. Here’s to hoping I finish at least one of them! Knowing my reading style, I’ll throw at least one graphic novel and audiobook into the mix.

Audible Plus Pick-Ups

I had Audible for years, but canceled it around 2021. I just recently resubscribed and descovered all the wonderful Audible Plus content available! John Scalzi, Stephen Graham Jones, Martha Wells, Adrian Tchaikovsky. What a line up!

Final Thoughts on the Week

I think we are finally passed the cold front. I sure hope so. Here’s to slightly less bundled nights reading!

Please share your Sunday Post in comments below! Let me know if you’ve read any of these books and if you enjoyed them.

❤️ Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Hope you get a break in the cold weather soon.

  2. Same here with the snow! It’s been AWFUL. Finally getting a break…

I’ve always thought thr White Trash Zombie books looked fun.

  3. Yikes! Lots of snow! The Audible Plus catalog is what keeps me a subscriber! Glad you were able to enjoy some nice reading this week. I’m a mood reader too.

  4. It’s been years since I read My Life as a White Trash Zombie, but I know I enjoyed it.

Wishing you a warmer reading week

  5. We’ve had that cold here too! Supposed to get up into the 40s this week, yay! Although I’m hoping this cold freeze will cut down on some of the bugs this summer, lol. I really enjoyed the White Trash Zombie book and hope to participate in the read along chat today! Have a great week!

  6. I very interested in the tainted cup as i love the uniqueness of the lockland series.

  7. I so relate to never reading the books I say I’m going to read. It’s much easier when I have a few choices, but when there are so many books available all at once, I end up going by mood and then never get to the other ones. I’m grateful for my library giving me access to so many books, but also, it’s so hard to choose what to read! Good luck for finishing at least one of your three books this week!

  8. I’m having some mood reading issues myself. I am NOT in the mood for romance which is big in February. I have the Tainted Cup and that’s up next for me.

I hope to see you on the WTZ chat. It’s only about 30 minutes out.

    1. Hopefully we both enjoy The Tainted Cup! Excited to see your thoughts on that one too.

I enjoyed the WTZ chat! Looking forward to the next one.

  9. I told my zombie-crazy friend about My Life as a White Trash Zombie this morning, and she’s delighted to find a series she has not read.

The cold has kept me at home, and I’ve enjoyed a lot of good books this week.

  10. Sorry about the cold front. I’m glad it’s not as cold as it has been. I hate when the temperature dips that low. I hope the snow it’s too bad on the streets. I love the snow, but I hate driving in it so I’d rather it just stay in the mountains.

  11. I must try White Trash Zombie.

  12. Coping with the giant deep freeze of our country is the theme of almost every US blogger this weekend, isn’t it. Wow, I hope we all warm up soon.
