Top Ten Tuesday: My Favorite Books of 2023

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly blog meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. It was born of a love of lists and a love of lists, and I also love both those! This week’s topic is “Favorite Books of 2023.”

I read so much excellent fiction this year, which made making this list exciting, but also very difficult. Full disclaimer, there are more than ten books on this list. I tried! I really did! But, there were just too many good books.

These are ALL 2023 releases, with the exception of my Best of Back Shelf Reviews bonus category, which lists my favorite backlist reads of the year.

  1. Best Novel – The Endless Vessel by Charles Soule
  1. Best Novella – Nothing But the Rain by Naomi Salman
  1. Best Audiobook – The Phoenix King by Aparna Verma
  1. Best Horror/Weird Fiction – A Season of Monstrous Conceptions by Lina Rather
  1. Best Dystopian – Road of the Raven by Alexandra Wood
  1. Best Romantasy – Of Chaos and Beauty by Meghan Rhine
  1. Best Speculative – Arch-Conspirator by Veronica Roth
  1. Best Young Adult – Forgotten Rebellion by A.J. Park
  1. Best Graphic Novel – Parasocial by Alex de Campi and Erica Henderson
  1. Best Collected Volume – Earthdivers, Vol. 1: Kill Columbus by Stephen Graham Jones

BONUS #1 Best Individual Comic Issues:

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine – The Dog of War #2 by Mike Chen

Xino #3 (Multi-Author/Artist Comic Anthology)

BONUS #2 Best Non SFF Books:

Some Shall Break by Ellie Marney

Juniper Bean Resorts to Murder by Gracie Ruth Mitchell

Can’t Help Falling by Courtney Walsh

The Late Mrs. Willoughby by Claudia Gray

BONUS #3 Best of Back Shelf Reviews (Backlist Reads):

Elder Race by Adrian Tchaikovsky

Night of the Mannequins by Stephen Graham Jones

Ring Shout by P. Djeli Clark

That’s all for this year’s books! I have a good feeling about 2024 as a book year, guys.

Until next time!
