Sunday Post: Eclipse Trip of a Lifetime

Welcome back to Back Shelf Books for another Sunday Post!

Did everyone have a good eclipse week? I actually traveled out of town for the eclipse. We decided on the trip about two weeks ahead of time and were lucky enough to be able to drive four hours to a location with 100% totality. My husband, my father, and I took the trip together and it was a complete blast. Each of us had seen a solar eclipse before, but never at 100% totality. It was absolutely incredible and completely indescribable.

In completely different news, there’s a huge sale going on I wanted to share. Some of the authors who have been finalists in Mark Lawrence’s SPFBO (Self-Published Fantasy Blog-off) have come together to have a sale on their SPFBO finalist books. Each of the books is 99 cents right now, which is a crazy good deal on some of these books. I’m still going through the list, but I know I’ll be stocking up on fantasy reads. The Thirteenth Hour and The Sword of Kaigen are two at the top of my list.

As always, I’m linking up today’s post with Readerbuzz for The Sunday Salon, Reading Reality for Stacking the Shelves, and The Caffeinated Reviewer for The Sunday Post.

Upcoming Posts & Reviews

I’m planning on these five reviews going up this week! These are all super varied and I enjoyed the heck out of these books.

What I Read This Week

I actually only finished two books this week. I finished Mammoths at the Gates, which I adored, and To Shape a Dragon’s Breath. My review of To Shape a Dragon’s Breath will be up tomorrow!

Currently Reading/Watching/Playing

I have been reading Catchpenny for far too long. While I’ve been enjoying it, I’m beyond ready to be finished with it. I’m giving it another week, and if I can’t finish it this week, I’m afraid it will be a DNF for now so I can move on to other books.

My husband and I have been watching The Last of Us and we wanted to make sure to get through the “Long, Long Time” episode that’s been much lauded and nominated for a Hugo award. We both cried (sobbed) during the whole episode. It’s so dang good. The best episode of television ever.

ALSO. DREDGE! It’s such a fun game! I’ve only played the demo, but I love it.

Stacking the Shelves

I have a super small stack this week, all of which are review books: Blood Debts by Terry J. Benton-Walker (audio), Time-Marked Warlock by Shami Stovall (physical arc), Queen B by Juno Dawson (ebook), and Breaking the Dark by Lisa Jewell (ebook).

Weekly Goal & Final Thoughts

What did you read this week? Any good recommendations?

I hope you all have a great reading week!

  1. Yes, as you say, the eclipse was a spectacular experience. It will be a long time before it is this easy to see one.

    1. I know! I’m glad we all got this one at least! Have a good week!

  2. So glad that you had a trip to see the eclipse in totality! We were at 99% here but 100% would have been an amazing sight. 🙂

I am curious about the Hobtown Mystery Series – I will have to look them up!

    1. The Hobtown Mystery Series is weird but in the best way! And I’m sure 99% totality was still plenty awesome!

  3. We didn’t do anything for the eclipse, unfortunately. My husband had just come home from an overseas trip and we were both too exhausted to do anything. It sounds like it was a great experience for you and your family though!

That episode of The Last of Us was emotionally brutal! I loved it so much and I tear up just thinking about it!

    1. It was such a wonderful day trip! I’m so glad we did it. An eerie and marvelous thing to witness. As far as the Long, Long Time episode, I think it destroyed all of us!! Such a lovely, heart-wrenching episode. I almost cried in Home Depot yesterday when I thought of it. lol
