Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly blog meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. These are all things I can wholeheartedly get behind.
This week’s topic is “April Showers,” which is super loose and open. After thinking about this topic for a super long time, I decided to talk about my “rainy day books.” My rainy day books are the books I reach for when I feel a reading slump coming on. It’s my list of books I constantly reread year after year. This are favorites and still hold up even after a million reads.

Sci-Fi & Fantasy Books
- Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel
Station Eleven broke me when I read it for the first time. It’s the perfect combination of literary fiction and post-apocolyptic fiction. I reread it every time I need a good cry or when I need to remember the good in humanity. It’s first on this list because I’m way past due for a reread!
- The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
Picture this: I’m a pretentious English major who mostly reads Jane Austen, Ian McEwan, and Virginia Woolf. I completely skipped Twilight and Harry Potter as a kid. Then, out of nowhere, someone introduces me to The Hunger Games in college. It might sound dramatic to say it changed my life, but it completely changed my reading and opened me up to reading non-classics. I still reread this series nearly once a year. They still hold up!
- The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
This is an original favorite book of mine. I’ve been a huge Tolkien fan since I read Fellowship of the Rings in the fifth grade. My husband insisted The Hobbit make this list since he has also reread The Hobbit. It’s such a great classic fantasy read.
- Devolution by Max Brooks
I can’t explain this one. I just know when I need a good weird book, I read for Max Brooks’ book on a community killed off by killer Bigfoots. It’s way better than I made it sound, though.
- A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray
I’ve talked about this one before, but I ADORE this series. A Thousand Pieces of You is my go-to airplane audiobook. I listen to it nearly every time I travel. I will forever love this book and this entire series.

Classics, Romance, & Mysteries
- And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
If you love classic murder mysteries and haven’t read And Then There Were None, please do yourself a favor and pick it up! If you aren’t a big Christie reader, the BBC miniseries staring Charles Dance is one of my all-time favorite adaptations. I’ve reread this one many times over the years.
- Emma by Jane Austen
I know Lizzy and Darcy get all the love, but I’m partial to Emma and Knightley. I’ve always felt a weird kinship with Emma and adore the friends to lovers story in Emma. This is such a cozy, feel-good read for me, and it never fails to make me happy when I’m having a bad week.
- The Business of Blood by Kerrigan Byrne
This is the only unfinished series on this list. The Business of Blood centers on Fiona, a woman who catches the eye of Jack the Ripper after her friend is one of his victims. She becomes determined to find and kill him. It’s gruesome and gritty and so dang good. I’ve reread this first book and the second book several times while waiting for the the other books in this series. It’s just so good and unlike anything else.
- Because of Miss Bridgerton by Julia Quinn
My Top Ten Tuesday lists are never complete without a Julia Quinn book, it seems. Quinn’s Rokesbys series doesn’t get as much love as her Bridgerton series, but Because of Miss Bridgerton is excellent. Childhood rivals to lovers + stubborn main characters + meddling family members. This is another Julia Quinn book I keep on standby.
- Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf
Virginia Woolf is on of my OG favorites. I’ve read most of her works and I love them all. Mrs. Dalloway is special, though. I’ve read it more times that I can count. It also made me love open-ended endings.
Do you have books you reread time after time? What are your favorite books and series to rereads?
Thanks so much for stopping by today!
