I had great intentions to post this when I woke up this morning. Alas, Animal Crossing: New Horizons released and took away most of my day. However, I really wanted to write this and tell you guys what I have up my sleeve for the upcoming few weeks.

The Hunger Games was a pretty foundational series for me early on in my reading journey. It was my first experience with speculative/dystopian literature, and was the first YA series that I read and enjoyed as an adult. I absolutely devoured this series, and I annotated every book. Best of all, the series still holds up so well! With the new prequel to the series, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, coming out on May 19th, I’m gearing up to dive back into the series head-first.

So what am I doing to get ready for Songbirds and Snakes? Well, for one I’m re-reading the trilogy. I’m so excited to get back into these books and relive all the great, dramatic, angsty bits of this trilogy. I also recently picked up The Girl Who Was On Fire, a really cool anthology of essays on trilogy, and I fully plan on letting the English major inside of me reappear when reading these essays. The collection has essays written by some really great YA writers like Jennifer Lynn Barnes and Sarah Rees Brennan. And, of course, I’m going to be rewatching the movies.

My plan is to do this over the next three weeks and devote a week to each installment of the trilogy. So, for this week I’ll be rereading the first book, rewatching the first movie, and reading a selection of the essays analyzing the series from The Girl Who Was On Fire. I might also sprinkle in some other things as I go along. And next Saturday, I’ll recap my thoughts from the whole rereading experience.
